Washington, April 8 (Prensa Latina) US social group Black Lives Matter convened today at a protest outside the city of North Charleston (South Carolina) after the death of a black man by the hands of a white police last Saturday.

Created after the fatal shooting of another black man in Ferguson, Missouri, in August, the group called expressed that justice is done after the release of a video by The New York Times denouncing the murder.

In the video clip, police officer Michael Thomas Slager appears firing 50-year-old Walter Lamer Scott eight times in the back, until he falls to the ground.

The footage shows that after overthrowing his victim, Slager walks slowly toward him and ordered him to place his hands behind his back. As Scott is not moving, he puts his hands behind his back and cuffs him.

Then Slager returns to the place from where he shot Scott, picks an object and returns to walk approximately 10 meters to Scott, before leaving the object at the feet of the fallen victim, as seen in the video.

Gov. Nikki Haley said in a statement Slager’s actions were not acceptable and did not reflect the values of the state or the way they act most of the law enforcement.

The deceased was a father of four, had been honorably discharged from the US Coast Guard and its record featuring no violent crimes, according to a legal source.

Speaking this Wednesday to television network NBC, the father of the deceased, Walter Scott, said his son ran away because he had perhaps alimony of their children and did not want to go back to jail. While the mother, Judy Scott, said the video was the most horrible thing that she had ever seen.

“I could hardly look at him, to see my son helpless, running and being wounded. That broke my heart,” she said on Good Morning America ABC.

The North Charleston event occurs after a rising racial tensions in the country, exacerbated by several emblematic cases since 2014, including the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner in Staten Island, New York.

Scott’s family and his lawyer, Chris Stewart, said that the demonstrations will be quiet and peaceful, after authorities filed charges for murder against police officer Slager.
