Sat., April 25: The Good Soldier Family Social

Dear Friends,

You are invited (but please RSVP) to celebrate Joshua Key’s tenth anniversary in Canada with his family and friends!

Joshua would be one of Canada’s best citizens if he is allowed to stay and not have to spend decades in a U.S. military prison because he is opposed to war crimes and he wrote a book about it with Lawrence Hill.

He may only have a few weeks left in Canada, so you won’t want to miss this fun family social.

You may RSVP by email or on this event page (please share it on your timeline and invite your friends) https://www.facebook.com/events/778670915534771/

Music, drinks, home made pizza served

Joshua served in Iraq in 2003 as a combat engineer with the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty Joshua witnessed countless war crimes, such as the murder of Iraqi civilians. After returning to the U.S. on a short leave he made the choice to not return to combat and eventually fled to Canada.

Life in Canada has not been easy and his status is still in limbo. Joshua and his Canadian wife and four Canadian children invite you and all your friends to come and celebrate a huge milestone – 10 years in Canada!

Cost: $10 (children 10 and under free)

back to my agitating:
What is at stake besides the devastation of a great and loving family should the Tories succeed in deporting Joshua to decades in a U.S. military prison? Nothing less than Canada’s attitude to war crimes.

A large majority of Canadians want him to stay, but the Tory government is doing everything it can to deport him and thwart his bid to become a Canadian citizen, especially by denying him and other U.S. military veterans the ability to rely on international law.

The fact is that no soldier is required to commit war crimes. Still, the Tories are deporting these heroic veterans to lengthy terms in U.S. military prisons. Expert legal opinion and the experience of every deported veteran tells us there is no hope of a fair trial in the U.S.

Since Canada started bombing Iraq last Fall, all U.S. military veterans have received deportation orders or are in the Pre-Removal Risk Assessment process.

The deportations are motivated by the Tories’ pursuit of war in Iraq and to create an example to other soldiers what will happen if they complain about war crimes or the legality of a war.

Against war crimes and for families,
(Unlike the Tories,)
Darrell Rankin
