Statement of Presidium of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine
On the 23rd of April 2015 the Secret Service of Ukraine officers forcibly entered into the premises of the Nikolaev regional committee (obkom) of CPU and conducted a search based on falsified allegations. At the moment the first secretary of the CPU’s Nikolaev obkom – a deputy of a number of convocations of the Parliament – Vladimir Iosifovich Matveev is being interrogated in the premises of the local administration unit of the SSU. There is only one goal: to obtain information – using blackmail and intimidation – concerning ostensible “terrorist†activity of CPU.
The Presidium of the Central Committee of CPU regards these events in Nikolaev as a further crime of the ruling regime, the new link in the chain of repressions and persecution of dissents, hunt of peace supporters and defenders of the destitute and depressed people of Ukraine.
The Presidium of the Central Committee of CPU declares that the provocative actions of power structures against CPU are designed to distract people’s attention from the catastrophic consequences of the national-oligarchic regime’s policy failure.
The country is sinking in blood of fratricidal war which led to tens of thousands of deaths, millions of refugees, 25% of industrial potential loss, destruction of Donbas life-support infrastructure. The policy of genocide is factually being conducted against 14 million pensioners. The unemployment rate is reaching dangerous levels. Despite the fact that pensions and salaries are “frozen†at the moment, we are witnessing an unprecedented rise of prices for essential goods, medicines and communal services tariffs. Having descended to an indecent level, the regime in order to defend itself is trying to outlive those who do not comply with their politics, those who fight for Ukraine’s integrity but view it differently from the their point of view.
The Presidium of the Central Committee is decisively protesting against the attempt of nationalists and oligarchs – in breach of international legal norms – to “privatize†the right for patriotism, freedom of speech, ideology, spread of information, conduction of peaceful protests.
The Presidium of the Central Committee is demanding to immediately cease the political terror against the first secretary of the Nikolaev obkom comrade Matveev V.I. and other Communists from Nikolaev, and the Communist Party as a whole.
