Why My Patriotism Made Me a Marxist

Communism, Marxism, and socialism are all terms that are taught to children at a young age to mean anti-American, anti-freedom, and even anti-life. In regards to the attempted application of communism in the 20th century, all these things could be proven true, and I would have no basis to argue against you, but that being said, communism, Marxism, and socialism have all been perverted over the years by tyrannical rulers who only cared about benefitting themselves rather than benefitting the community as a whole. Communism, Marxism, and socialism, in their original, unadulterated forms, are very benevolent doctrines that sought (and continue to seek) peaceful and accommodating solutions to the problems of the world. In fact, real communists would only seek to better America. How do I know this? Because my name is Jeremy Diemert, a 15-year-old American patriot, and I am a communist.
I think the problem with the term “patriot†is that people can’t get over their preconceived notion of what the word actually means. People (especially those poor souls on the right) seem to think that a real patriot must support their country no matter what, swallow every decision the government makes, and never question authority. Well, my friends, I can assure you that is not the definition of a patriot, that is the definition of a conformist. A real patriot should be willing to admit when their country is wrong, a real patriot shouldn’t accept every decision the government makes as moral, and, above all, a real patriot should always question authority. I love America, so when I see the government commit acts of injustice against the people my patriotism begins to flare up. Every time I walk through downtown Houston, I see countless homeless with no jobs, no food, and no money. So, where is the government coming to their aid? Where are the “real patriots†coming to the rescue? When I observe the scene, they are nowhere to be found.
Watching the homeless, the jobless, and the poor wither away on the streets is what made me a Marxist to begin with; watching corporations screw over their employees, the government restrict the rights of its citizens, and the spread of imperialism across the globe only radicalized me even further. These are the things that brought me to the writings of Marx, the teachings of Lenin, and the ideals of Trotsky. Communism, Marxism, and socialism seek to eradicate all these aforementioned evils from our society by means that are as peaceful as possible. Therefore, Communism isn’t anti-government, it’s just against the government’s restrictions on the lives of its citizens. Therefore, Communism isn’t anti-America, but instead it is anti-war and anti-imperialism. If you are indifferent towards the success of this great country then don’t question authority, accept everything you are told as fact, love your leaders no matter what, and be nothing but a complete conformist. However, if you do love this country, maybe its time to start thinking for yourself.
So, yes, it’s true, my patriotism made me a communist, a Marxist, and a socialist; my patriotism made me want to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves, my patriotism made me want be the voice for those who can’t speak, my patriotism made me want to bring justice to the unjust, and, above all, my patriotism made me willing to do whatever it takes to protect the rights of the citizens of the United States of America. So, together, let us question authority, let us fight against corruption, and let us love and forgive our fellow human beings. The true patriot’s heart will always be guided by love and the true patriot’s mind will always be filled with thoughts about the betterment of others. My name is Jeremy Diemert, and I am a true patriot.
