Almost 50 years ago I graduated from Brockton High School in Massachusetts. My best teacher was John Tashjian, a

survivor of the genocide of 1915.  I still owe this gentle and gigantic soul a great deal. We read the best books and he

saw to it that we could formulate ourselves orally and writing before he sent us out into the world.  There wasn’t very

much contact after graduation. Years later I learned that he had died suddenly in 1974.  I didn’t know that when I left

flowers at the memorial in Yerevan over 30 years ago.  I shall very likely travel again to Armenia within the next two

years.

I have been an expatriate for almost 45 years.  No reason at this late date to come back except to visit relatives,

friends , and eventually go to a class reunion next year.  John Tashjian will always be with me reminding me of

the genocide committed against Armenians , as well as First Peoples, Africans during slavery and in the Congo , Jews and

many others.

Anybody with any decency will stop for a minute of silence on Friday to remember the Armenian victims of

1915.
